講座人介紹: 

Prof. Kin-Lu Wong is a National Chair Professor of Ministry of Education, a Distinguished Researcher of Ministry of Science and Technology, a Distinguished Chair Professor with National Sun Yat-sen University, Taiwan, a Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researcher, an Elsevier Most Cited Researcher, an IEEE Fellow, an elected IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society AdCom member, and a Track Editor of IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation. He has graduated 55 PhD students, published 560 refereed journal papers, and granted over 300 patents, including 99 U.S. patents. Prof. Wong’s published articles have been cited over 29,000 times with an H-index of 79 in Google Scholar. He was General Chairs of 2012 APMC (Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference), 2014 ISAP (International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation), and 2016 APCAP (Asia-Pacific Conference on Antennas and Propagation).


講座內容:

For fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication, there is a vision to achieve multi-Gbps experienced data rate anywhere anytime for the users. For this 5G vision, the MIMO and mmWave technologies have been considered to be promising. It has been shown that with 8 x 8 MIMO operation, the 5G smartphone can provide 3.8-Gbps system throughput with 100MHz bandwidth (3.5GHz band) and 256QAM modulation. Higher peak data rate can also be obtained by using a larger bandwidth in the mmWave band (for example, 800MHz bandwidth in the 28GHz band). Recent developments and future perspectives in the terminal MIMO and mmWave antennas will be addressed. The MIMO/mmWave system throughput testbed developed for the terminal antenna throughput verification will also be introduced and discussed.
